PITTSBURGH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Sportswriter

From 2016-2017, I worked as a sportswriter for the Pittsburgh Flag Football League (PFFL), which features both a youth league (ages 6+) and an adult league.  As a league writer, I was responsible for writing a majority of the articles that appeared on the PFFL's website. These articles focused on a variety of topics such as game previews, game coverages and recaps, team features, and some sports-related opinion pieces.  Each week, I was responsible for covering several games (both youth and adult) and writing 4-5 articles per week. This experience allowed me to develop myself early-on as a sports journalist from both a writing and communication perspective, having to interview and interact with athletes on a weekly basis.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

Real-Time Correspondent

During my time as a media relations intern for the Pittsburgh Pirates, I had the opportunity to work several home series as a Real-Time Correspondent (RTC) for MLB Advanced Media. As an RTC, my job was to take pictures (using a Canon DSLR) of the visiting team during pre-game batting practice, live in-game action, and post-game festivities. I would send the photos to MLB AM as well as the social media department for the visiting team.  Since most social media managers do not travel with the team, my role was to supply them with pictures that they could then use on their various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  This was a great experience because it gave me the opportunity to try something different as well as working closely with the visiting team and MLB. However, what was most rewarding was seeing the MLB, the Chicago Cubs, and the Pirates use the pictures I took on their social media accounts.
